Guess what time it is? It’s that time again… Movie of the Month!
The movie for March is Mickey 17 starring Mark Ruffalo, Robert Pattinson, Steven Yeun, and Naomi Ackie. Do you remember Edward Cullen from the Twilight movies? He's the same dude who played Batman, playing alongside Zoë Kravitz (Catwoman) in Batman. He also played Cedric Diggory in Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire (R.I.P Cedric Diggory, you are missed). These well-known characters are all played by Robert Pattinson who stars in Mickey 17.
In early March, I visited the movie theater with my dad to see this film… We were disappointed. I had high expectations because it was Robert Pattinson. I’ve been a fan of Pattinson for years and this movie didn’t hit as hard as I thought it would; I thought the storyline didn’t make sense in some parts and that the film's setting, a futuristic world that felt so unrealistic because it had space ships filled with people. Kind of what you would think when someone would say: “Do you think we’ll have flying cars twenty years from now?”. That’s exactly what it was like. It was so different from our world today, I mean we’ve definitely advanced technology wise but I feel that advancing that much is a little too much for a movie filmed in the future.
Before this happens, the futuristic world decided to colonize a planet called Nifelheim (which can be found in Norse Mythology).
In summary, this film takes place in the future in the year 2054. Robert Pattinson, who plays Mickey Barnes AKA Mickey 17, is the main character. This character isn’t an ordinary man; he is a lab experiment who dies to be reprinted. In the lab machine, his memories are also reprinted.
While I am no Robert Pattinson hater, the storyline was not favorable. He is still one of my favorite actors of all time, it was just this one movie. I thought his performance was phenomenal, as always, and everyone else’s performances were amazing as well. They’re all lovely actors. I will say this though… There were some hilarious scenes in the movie. No spoilers… Obviously!
To give my 100%, honest rating, I would give this film a 5/10. This storyline just wasn’t my cup of tea. However, I thought Robert Pattinson as a double was really cool. If you’re interested in dystopian movies, then this would be for you.
See you next time!
